Many Scallopers said they missed Scallop AMA due to force majeure so we decide to make a review of it, we also think the content of our AMA needs to be better, shorter, and clearer, so we decided the record of our AMA will be a text review! Let’s take a look!

Gm Scallopers, I am Kriss — the team lead of Scallop, my background is in computer science, I was a full-stack developer and now I am a security engineer in a web game company in Taipei. Besides cryptocurrency and tech, I am also a DJ and a scuba diver.
I dig in cryptocurrency was in 2017, I was an Ethereum miner and keep researching blockchains and cryptocurrency, and start to have a deep dive into Solana & Defi in march 2021 cuz one of my DJ friend which is also a strong dev from a senior Solana project introduced Solana to me.
Q: Why Solana?
Kriss:
Besides the low gas fees and fast speed like many new L1 or L2 chains, the high composability, unique account structure, it’s parallel and stateless make Solana an outstanding Layer 1 blockchain.
Q: Why Scallop?
Kriss:
I love the no-loss lottery idea from a protocol called Pooltogether on Ethereum, and I also think NFTs have a huge potential. So I decided to create an ocean theme no-loss lottery protocol with unique on-chain collectibles and would like to upgrade it to be an aquarium gaming project in the future.
Q: About Scallop team.
Kriss:
I found my best friend who was also my coworker Donnie to build with me, and we think if we would like to do something big, we need to find a senior dev in the industry to join us so we met Larry at Solana Discord and invite him to be a co-founder, he was a core member of Ethereum Scaling/Russia Hackathon winner projects, and we also invite Chun to be our art designer and join Solana Season Hackathon together. Nathan is a young and talented dev who started to work with us since Ignition Hackathon.

Q: Open source? And Security.
Kriss:
We will let Scallop open source in the future after the on-chain program got some code reviews by some strong security team or dev team such as Kudelski Security, Neodyme, Synthetify, and Switchboard. And Scallop will also host a bug bounty before it launched on Solana mainnet.
Q: When Mainnet/Token/IDO?
Kriss:
You can see the current process at https://dev.scallop.io/, we are still working on the core program and the goal is to have the public dev-net version at the end of Q1 or early Q2. After we finish it and have a team code review, we will host a bug bounty and some outside code reviews, and then we will launch Scallop on mainnet.
2% of SCA token total supply are for public sale, so we will have a Mango-like IDO, and also would like to collab with 1~2 IDO platforms such as Raydium or Solanium. Our plan is we will do it at H1 2022 and launch Scallop token (SCA), but we will see how things go and pick a great time, and the details will be according to the announcement.
Q: Who backed Scallop?
Kriss:
We don’t have any investors now cuz we are not a company yet and haven’t started the fundraising, but we have met some ventures/capitals to be friends in the ecosystem during the hackathon. We would like to scale up Scallop this year, hope things go well and if there’s any good news we will let all Scallopers know it.
Btw, this is also one of the reasons why we didn’t do lots of marketing things right now, our plan is we will focus on building and coding first and then scale up Scallop. When we scaled up and have a public demo product on devnet, we will start to do more marketing stuff.
User: Do you planning to make Scallop for multiple Chains?
Kriss:
The answer now is no cuz in this year this stage, we will more focus on building our project on Solana, we also think Solana will be the best Layer 1 blockchain in these few years, but we will still keep watching is there any new chain that is also outstanding and sees how things go, after Scallop enter the next stage and our community is bigger we will start to think about to support other chains.
User: I see one competitor in Solana ecosystem had to close, what’s the plan to avoid that happening to scallop in the future?
Kriss:
This is a great question, we are researching the compliance field for Scallop, meeting some lawyers, and consulting some seniors in the ecosystem. In fact, there are also many competitors closer to Scallop who already have a solution, we have many differences between the competitor you mean, we are a “no-loss lottery” and I think it will help us pass some unfavorable rules.
User: How will Scallop’s NFT be used in the future? And is there any marketplace to exchange them?
Kriss:
The basic usage will be they will show at your Scallop tank, and we will make it more like your pet in the future steps by steps and also interact with Scallop dapp, such as some decorations drop or whitelisting.
Yeah, there will be several marketplaces, while we are going to mint Scallop NFTs Decorations we will start to contact them, and I think that is not the most difficult problem cuz if Scallop is doing well, we can bring Scallopers to their platform and they can also help us for listing NFTs, it will be a win-win collab, so we will still focus on making Scallop better every day.
